Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AT278 is an ultra-concentrated (500 U/mL), ultra-rapid acting, novel formulation of insulin aspart developed by Arecor Therapeutics. It is designed to accelerate the absorption of insulin post-injection, even at high concentrations, resulting in a lower injection volume and faster onset of action compared to standard rapid-acting insulins such as NovoRapid (insulin aspart 100 U/mL) and Humulin R U-500. The unique pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile of AT278 enables improved post-prandial glucose control with fewer injections per day and greater dosing flexibility for people with diabetes who require high daily doses of insulin. This makes it particularly suitable for overweight or obese patients with type 2 diabetes who have high BMI and significant insulin resistance. Additionally, its concentrated formulation supports the development of next-generation miniaturized and long-wearing insulin pumps[1][2][5][6].
