Overview

AT3022 is a transdermal patch formulation of fentanyl citrate developed by Altea Therapeutics for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain. The product utilizes the proprietary PassPort™ Transdermal System, which employs thermal microporation to create microscopic channels in the stratum corneum, facilitating the delivery of water-soluble molecules like fentanyl citrate across the skin. Unlike traditional fentanyl patches that deliver the highly lipid-soluble base form of the drug, AT3022 is designed to provide rapid onset and controlled delivery of the salt form, potentially offering a safer and more efficacious profile for pain management. The program entered Phase I clinical trials in 2008.
