Overview

ATA188 is an investigational, off-the-shelf, allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy developed for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), particularly progressive forms. It consists of partially HLA-matched cytotoxic T lymphocytes derived from healthy donors and specifically targets cells infected with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The therapy is designed to eliminate EBV-infected B-cells and plasma cells in the central nervous system, which are believed to contribute to MS pathogenesis. By targeting these cells, ATA188 aims to slow or halt disease progression. Clinical trials have shown encouraging safety data and some clinical signals in early-phase studies; however, a Phase 2 trial did not meet its primary endpoint, leading to a pause in development[1][2][3][5][6].
