Overview

ATA190 is an autologous Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-specific cytotoxic T-cell therapy being developed by Atara Biotherapeutics for the treatment of progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). It consists of autologous T cells expanded and enriched ex vivo to recognize EBV antigens expressed in B cells and plasma cells that are hypothesized to drive MS pathology, enabling targeted elimination of EBV-infected cells while sparing healthy tissue.[1][4][7][8] In a Phase 1, open‑label study in patients with progressive MS, ATA190 demonstrated a favorable safety profile and signals of clinical benefit, with a majority of treated subjects showing symptomatic and objective neurological improvements.[2][4][8][9] ATA190 represents a personalized, autologous counterpart to Atara’s allogeneic EBV‑targeted T-cell product ATA188, leveraging a complementary targeted antigen recognition platform for autoimmune disease.[1][4][7][14][16]
