Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atacicept is an investigational **recombinant fusion protein** and dual **BAFF/APRIL** antagonist designed to suppress B-cell survival and plasma-cell activity by binding the cytokines B-lymphocyte stimulator and a proliferation-inducing ligand. The molecule consists of the extracellular ligand-binding domain of **TACI** fused to the Fc portion of human IgG, and has been studied in autoimmune diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus nephritis, with current late-stage development led by **Vera Therapeutics** for **IgA nephropathy**. Vera obtained exclusive worldwide rights from **Ares Trading**, an affiliate of **Merck KGaA**, in 2020; atacicept is positioned as a potential first-in-class therapy in IgA nephropathy and has also been explored clinically in lupus-related indications.
