Overview

ATACK (Allogeneic Targeted Activated Cancer Killer cells) is an allogeneic cell therapy developed by the International Institute of Biotherapy (also known as Biotherapy International). The therapy utilizes intentionally mismatched immune effector cells, including T cells, Natural Killer (NK) cells, and Natural Killer T (NKT) cells, derived from healthy donors. These cells are activated and targeted against cancer cells, particularly in patients who have failed conventional anti-cancer modalities. The mechanism of action involves a rejection-like immune response against the tumor. In some protocols, monoclonal antibodies are used to enhance targeting against specific overexpressed antigens on the surface of cancer cells. It has shown effectiveness in treating hematologic malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), and multiple myeloma, particularly when administered at the stage of minimal residual disease (MRD).
