Overview
ATC-001 is a topical therapeutic candidate developed by Atticus Pharma for the treatment of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). The product utilizes a proprietary sustained-release delivery system called Z-pods, which are highly engineered silica particles licensed from Zylö Therapeutics. These Z-pods are loaded with anandamide (AEA), an endogenous cannabinoid that is typically unstable and difficult to deliver topically. The Z-pod technology stabilizes AEA and provides a depot-like effect, allowing for the sustained release of the drug into inflamed skin lesions over a 12-24 hour period. By activating the cutaneous endocannabinoid system, ATC-001 modulates the inflammatory response. The candidate is currently in IND-enabling studies, with Phase 1 clinical trials expected to commence in 2026.
