Overview

ATC-ED1 is a preclinical-stage topical formulation of sildenafil being developed by Atticus Pharma for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It utilizes a proprietary sustained-release delivery system known as Z-pods to provide local delivery of sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. By inhibiting PDE5, the drug prevents the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow. The topical Z-pod delivery is designed to improve local efficacy while potentially reducing systemic side effects associated with oral PDE5 inhibitors.
