Cartizol is an intra-articular injectable formulation of type I atelocollagen developed by Sewon Cellontech for the treatment of cartilage defects and joint pain. The active ingredient is derived from porcine dermal skin and processed to remove telopeptides (atelocollagen) while preserving the natural triple-helix structure without chemical cross-linking. Cartizol is intended to act as a biological scaffold and cartilage supplement, facilitating the restoration of the articular cartilage layer in conditions such as osteoarthritis, chondromalacia, and traumatic arthritis. It is supplied in two versions, CartiZol Active and CartiZol Ultra, which differ in volume but maintain a 6% atelocollagen concentration. The product has been evaluated in randomized, controlled clinical trials in South Korea to assess its efficacy in reducing knee joint pain compared to saline injections.
