Overview

Atezolizumab + carboplatin + etoposide is a combination regimen used as first-line treatment for adults with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). Atezolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway, enhancing the immune system's ability to detect and destroy cancer cells. Carboplatin and etoposide are cytotoxic chemotherapy agents that slow the growth of and kill cancer cells. The combination has demonstrated improved overall survival and progression-free survival compared to chemotherapy alone, based on results from pivotal clinical trials such as IMpower133. After four cycles of combination therapy, patients may continue with maintenance atezolizumab monotherapy until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity[1][2][3][4][6].
