Atezolizumab + pegylated interferon alfa-2a is a combination of two distinct immunotherapeutic agents: atezolizumab, a monoclonal antibody that blocks the programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway to enhance anti-tumor immune responses, and pegylated interferon alfa-2a, a pegylated cytokine that stimulates the innate and adaptive immune system through activation of type 1 interferon receptors and the JAK/STAT pathway. This combination has been investigated primarily in advanced solid tumors, especially renal cell carcinoma, aiming to augment endogenous anti-tumor immunity. Clinical trials have primarily evaluated safety and tolerability, with preliminary results showing that the regimen is generally well tolerated, though the added efficacy compared to established regimens appears limited. The drugs are developed by Genentech (atezolizumab) and Roche (pegylated interferon alfa-2a)[1][3][4].
