atg7 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the Autophagy Related 7 (ATG7) gene. ATG7 is a critical E1-like enzyme in the autophagy pathway, essential for the conjugation of ATG12 to ATG5 and the lipidation of LC3, which are necessary steps for autophagosome formation. By inhibiting ATG7, this siRNA blocks autophagic flux, a process often exploited by cancer cells to survive metabolic stress and chemotherapy. In preclinical research, ATG7 siRNA is used to sensitize various tumors (such as pancreatic, breast, and cervical cancers) to treatment and to study the role of autophagy in metabolic and inflammatory diseases like diabetes and sepsis. It is typically delivered using specialized vehicles like lipid nanoparticles or micellar systems to enhance stability and cellular uptake.
