Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Athebody DARPins for LNP delivery is a targeted drug delivery platform that combines designed ankyrin repeat proteins (DARPins), specifically the proprietary "Athebody" class developed by Athebio AG, with lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology. The approach enables highly specific and efficient targeted delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics—such as mRNA—by conjugating stable and customizable DARPins to the surface of LNPs. This allows precise targeting of specific cell types or tissues by leveraging the high affinity and specificity of DARPins as targeting ligands. The platform aims to overcome one of the main challenges in nucleic acid therapy—the lack of target-specific delivery—by enabling site-specific binding and uptake while maintaining manufacturability and stability advantages over traditional antibody-based approaches. The technology is being developed through a partnership between Athebio AG (Switzerland) and Acuitas Therapeutics (Canada), with Acuitas integrating exclusive access to this platform into its own advanced LNP systems[2][4][7].
