Overview

ATI-1013 is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed to bind and neutralize nicotine in the bloodstream. By sequestering nicotine, it prevents the compound from reaching its receptors throughout the body, including those in the brain, thereby attenuating both its addictive properties and peripheral effects such as vasoconstriction and increased blood pressure. Unlike small molecule therapies or nicotine replacement products, ATI-1013 does not interact with neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors directly but instead acts by trapping nicotine in circulation. This mechanism is expected to help break the cycle of addiction and reduce disease progression in conditions where nicotine plays a central role, such as Buerger’s Disease (thromboangiitis obliterans) and other severe forms of peripheral arterial disease. The drug has achieved preclinical proof of concept and has received Orphan Drug Designation for Buerger’s Disease[1][4][5][6][9].
