Overview

ATI-1701 is a novel, live attenuated vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of tularemia caused by Francisella tularensis, a highly infectious Category A pathogen considered a top bioterrorism threat. The vaccine is based on a genetically modified strain of F. tularensis Type A SCHU S4 with deletion of the clpB gene (SCHU S4 ΔclpB), resulting in attenuation while retaining immunogenicity. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that a single dose provides robust and durable protection against lethal aerosolized tularemia in animal models for up to one year post-vaccination. There are currently no approved vaccines for tularemia in major global markets; ATI-1701 is being advanced under the FDA’s Animal Rule pathway to expedite development as a medical countermeasure for biodefense applications[2][4][5][9].
