Overview

ATI-3009 is a recombinant bacterial nicotine-degrading enzyme (NicA2 variant) developed to treat nicotine addiction and aid in smoking cessation. It works by rapidly metabolizing nicotine in the bloodstream before it can reach the brain, thereby reducing or eliminating its addictive and reinforcing effects. The engineered variant (ATI-3009) demonstrates increased catalytic activity, longer half-life, and reduced immunogenicity compared to wild-type enzymes. Preclinical studies have shown that ATI-3009 can significantly lower brain nicotine levels without observed toxicities in animal models. The drug is being developed as a novel approach for smoking withdrawal and relapse prevention by Antidote Therapeutics and collaborators[1][6].
