Overview

Atogepant is an oral small molecule antagonist of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor, developed for the preventive treatment of migraine in adults. It works by blocking CGRP, a neuropeptide involved in migraine pathophysiology, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Atogepant is taken once daily as a tablet and is generally well tolerated, with common side effects including nausea, constipation, decreased appetite, fatigue, and somnolence. It was developed by AbbVie and first approved in the United States in September 2021 under the brand name Qulipta[1][2][5][7].
