Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atomega (KI-3108) is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by Kuhnil Pharmaceuticals for the management of combined hyperlipidemia. It integrates atorvastatin, a potent HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), with omega-3-acid ethyl esters (comprising EPA and DHA). Atorvastatin reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides by inhibiting the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, while omega-3-acid ethyl esters lower serum triglycerides by inhibiting hepatic synthesis of VLDL and increasing triglyceride clearance through mechanisms involving PPAR-alpha activation and DGAT inhibition. This combination is particularly indicated for patients who require simultaneous control of both LDL-C and triglyceride levels. Atomega was approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in 2020.
