Atorimib

Atorimib is a fixed-dose combination prescription medication comprising ezetimibe and atorvastatin, designed for the management of elevated cholesterol levels. Ezetimibe acts by selectively inhibiting the intestinal absorption of cholesterol through its interaction with the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) protein. Concurrently, atorvastatin, a member of the statin class, functions as a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMG-CoA reductase), the rate-limiting enzyme in the liver's endogenous cholesterol biosynthesis pathway. This synergistic dual mechanism effectively reduces total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B (Apo B), and triglycerides, while also increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Atorimib is indicated as an adjunctive therapy to diet for patients with primary or mixed hyperlipidemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
