Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atorkit is a branded generic formulation of atorvastatin, a lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). It is marketed and distributed by Learmont Pharmaceuticals, an Indian pharmaceutical distribution company operating under the Daddyz Division. Atorvastatin works by competitively inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis. This inhibition reduces intracellular cholesterol levels, leading to an increase in the expression of LDL receptors on the surface of hepatocytes and a subsequent increase in the clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol from the circulation. Atorkit is primarily indicated for the management of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and for the prevention of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke in high-risk patients.
