Atorva

Atorva is a generic formulation of atorvastatin calcium anhydrous developed and manufactured by Yuhan Corp. It is a small molecule HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. The drug works by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate pathway of hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis, which leads to a reduction in LDL cholesterol levels. Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) conducted Phase 4 randomized, open-label clinical trials in South Korea to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Atorva 20mg compared to the branded reference drug Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium trihydrate). These studies demonstrated that Atorva is non-inferior to the branded formulation in lowering LDL cholesterol and is well tolerated in Korean patients.
