Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Starclop AV is an oral combination drug containing the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor atorvastatin (10 mg) and the antiplatelet agent clopidogrel (75 mg). Developed and marketed by Zinnia Life Sciences, it is indicated for the treatment of high cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as for the prevention of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, angina, heart failure, and revascularization procedures in adult patients. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, thereby reducing the liver's production of LDL ('bad') cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL ('good') cholesterol. Clopidogrel acts by selectively inhibiting the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet P2Y12 receptor, preventing platelet aggregation and subsequent blood clot formation. This dual mechanism provides comprehensive cardiovascular protection by managing lipid levels and reducing the risk of arterial thrombosis.
