Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atorvastatin + lercanidipine is a fixed-dose combination of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor atorvastatin and the third-generation dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker lercanidipine. It is designed to simultaneously manage hypertension and dyslipidemia, two major co-existing risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver, which upregulates LDL receptors and lowers circulating lipid levels. Lercanidipine relaxes vascular smooth muscle by blocking L-type calcium channels, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance and lowering blood pressure. The combination has been investigated in formulation patents by Zhaoke Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Lee's Pharmaceutical) to improve patient compliance and provide synergistic cardiovascular protection.
