Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atotin is an atorvastatin-based oral medication manufactured by Ethix Healthcare, a PCD Pharma Franchise company. As a member of the statin class of drugs, it functions as a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate pathway responsible for hepatic cholesterol synthesis. By reducing internal cholesterol production, Atotin triggers an upregulation of LDL receptors on the surface of liver cells, enhancing the clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the bloodstream. It is primarily used to manage hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke in at-risk patients.
