Overview

ATR04-484 is a live biotherapeutic product candidate developed by Azitra for the treatment of skin rashes associated with epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor (EGFRi) therapy. It consists of an engineered auxotrophic strain of Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE484), selected for its ability to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and reduce IL-36γ levels—both implicated in EGFRi-induced dermal toxicity. The strain has been further modified to enhance safety by deleting an antibiotic resistance gene and engineering D-alanine auxotrophy to control its growth. Applied topically as an ointment, ATR04-484 aims to restore microbial balance on the skin and reduce inflammation without causing irritation or corrosion. Its primary indication is the management of moderate-to-severe EGFRi-associated rash in cancer patients undergoing targeted therapies[2][3][6].
