Overview

SKI3246 is a standardized oral extract of the rhizome of Atractylodes japonica, a perennial plant native to North Asia. It is being developed as a small molecule drug for the treatment of digestive system disorders, particularly irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). Preclinical studies indicate that SKI3246 can increase colonic transit time in vitro and may modulate lower gastrointestinal motility, although its effects in vivo are less pronounced. In animal models, it has shown potential to decrease fecal output under certain conditions and attenuate visceral pain responses. The mechanism of action remains unknown but is presumed to involve modulation of gastrointestinal motility and possibly anti-inflammatory or neuromodulatory pathways. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy and safety in patients with non-constipation irritable bowel syndrome.
