Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atrisorb FreeFlow is a bioabsorbable guided tissue regeneration (GTR) barrier system used in periodontal surgery to treat periodontal defects and facilitate the regeneration of bone and tissue. Developed by Atrix Laboratories and later marketed by Block Drug Corporation and Tolmar, the product consists of a flowable polylactic acid (PLA) polymer gel. When applied to a surgical site, the material sets in the presence of water or oral fluids to form a semi-rigid, porous membrane. This membrane acts as a physical barrier that prevents epithelial downgrowth into the defect, thereby allowing for the selective repopulation of the root surface by periodontal ligament cells and bone-forming cells. Atrisorb FreeFlow is classified as a medical device and received FDA 510(k) clearance for the surgical treatment of periodontal disease.
