Overview

Atropine + fentanyl is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents commonly used in anesthesia and perioperative care. Atropine is an antimuscarinic agent that blocks the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors in the parasympathetic nervous system. It is primarily used to reduce secretions and prevent bradycardia during surgical procedures. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic that acts as an agonist at mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system to provide profound pain relief and sedation. The combination may be used for premedication before anesthesia or for procedural sedation; atropine helps counteract opioid-induced bradycardia while fentanyl provides analgesia[1][2][5]. Both drugs are well-established pharmaceuticals with broad use in clinical practice.
