Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Atrosia is a herbal medicinal product developed by Weber & Weber Biologische Arzneimittel, containing a concentrated dry extract of *Harpagophytum procumbens* (Devil's Claw) secondary roots. It is utilized for the supportive treatment of degenerative musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis and chronic joint pain. The therapeutic efficacy is largely attributed to iridoid glycosides, particularly harpagoside, which exhibit anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties by inhibiting the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes through the modulation of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways. It is registered in Germany as a pharmaceutical product for the relief of joint wear and tear.
