Overview

ATX-101 is a designation used for three unrelated drug candidates. The first is a novel cell-penetrating peptide developed by **APIM Therapeutics** that contains the APIM (AlkB homologue 2 PCNA-interacting motif) sequence. It targets **Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA)**, specifically inhibiting its interaction with proteins involved in DNA repair and cellular stress responses, thereby inducing apoptosis in cancer cells like multiple myeloma and sensitizing them to chemotherapy. The second is an ultra-sustained-release formulation of **bupivacaine** developed by **Allay Therapeutics** using a proprietary hydrogel platform to provide localized, non-opioid pain relief for weeks following surgeries such as total knee arthroplasty. The third is a synthetic version of **deoxycholic acid** (brand name **Kybella**), originally developed by **Kythera Biopharmaceuticals** and later acquired by **Allergan** (AbbVie). It acts as a cytolytic agent that physically disrupts adipocyte cell membranes to reduce submental fullness (double chin).
