Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ATX-401 is an engineered Gram-negative lysin (endolysin) developed as a recombinant protein antibacterial agent. Its mechanism of action involves cell wall inhibition by targeting and degrading the peptidoglycan layer of Gram-negative bacteria. Originally developed by ContraFect and later by Aurobac Therapeutics, it was intended for the treatment of serious Gram-negative infections. The drug represents a novel approach to combating antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens through enzymatic lysis rather than traditional small molecule antibiotics[1][3].
