Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ATX101 is an investigational, ultra-sustained release analgesic developed by Allay Therapeutics for the management of postoperative pain, specifically following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The product consists of a high-density formulation of bupivacaine, a local anesthetic, incorporated into a bioresorbable polymer matrix designed to be implanted directly into the surgical site at the end of a procedure. ATX101 is engineered to provide continuous pain relief for several weeks by releasing bupivacaine in a controlled manner, after which the polymer matrix dissolves into water and carbon dioxide. It has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation and is currently being evaluated in Phase 2b clinical trials to assess its efficacy in reducing pain and opioid consumption compared to standard bupivacaine infiltration and placebo.
