Augment Bone Graft is a combination product consisting of recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor BB (rhPDGF-BB) and a synthetic bone scaffold, beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP). It is indicated as an alternative to autologous bone graft (autograft) for use in hindfoot and ankle fusion procedures. The rhPDGF-BB component, also known as becaplermin, is a potent chemotactic and mitogenic agent that recruits and stimulates the proliferation of osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells, while the beta-TCP provides an osteoconductive scaffold for new bone formation. Originally developed by BioMimetic Therapeutics, the product was acquired by Wright Medical Group and is currently part of the Stryker portfolio following Stryker's acquisition of Wright Medical. It received FDA Premarket Approval (PMA) in 2015.
