Augment Injectable Bone Graft is a biologic combination product consisting of recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF-BB), beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), and bovine type I collagen. Developed by BioMimetic Therapeutics (later acquired by Wright Medical and then Stryker), it is designed as an osteoinductive and osteoconductive alternative to autologous bone graft. The active component, rhPDGF-BB, is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant that binds to PDGF receptors on mesenchymal stem cells, osteoblasts, and fibroblasts to stimulate cellular proliferation and bone formation. The β-TCP serves as a porous, resorbal scaffold for new bone ingrowth, while the collagen component provides a matrix that allows for an injectable delivery format. It is primarily indicated for use in ankle and hindfoot arthrodesis and for the treatment of osseous periodontal defects.
