AUMantagomir is a specialized antisense oligonucleotide designed for microRNA (miRNA) inhibition. It acts as an "antagomir," binding to specific miRNAs and preventing them from interacting with their natural mRNA targets, thereby blocking miRNA function and often leading to miRNA degradation. The technology is built on the AUM silence platform, which enables self-delivery—meaning these oligos can enter cells without transfection reagents and localize to both cytoplasm and nucleus. This feature makes them particularly useful for research in complex tissues such as neuronal cells. In preclinical studies, AUMantagomirs have demonstrated strong inhibition of miRNA activity and significant upregulation of target genes; for example, in rat hippocampal slices treated with an AUM antagomir against miR-134, there was a clear decrease in miR-134 levels and de-repression of its target genes[1].
