**AuNP-BBN-Pt2** is a preclinical, gastrin-releasing peptide receptor-targeted gold-nanoparticle nanomedicine designed for prostate-cancer theranostics. It comprises a small gold nanoparticle functionalized with a DOTA derivative, the GRPR-targeting bombesin analog BBN[7-14], and a cisplatin-derived Pt(IV) prodrug connected through a PEGylated linker. The bombesin ligand promotes uptake by GRPR-positive tumor cells, while intracellular reduction of the Pt(IV) prodrug is intended to generate cytotoxic Pt(II) species that form DNA lesions. A related gallium-67-labeled derivative was investigated for SPECT-compatible imaging, but AuNP-BBN-Pt2 itself is the non-radiolabeled nanoparticle construct.
