Overview

Aurase is a topical hydrogel formulation containing **tarumase**, a recombinant enzyme (provisional INN) derived from maggot secretions and cloned for pharmaceutical production. Tarumase is a protease that selectively targets **fibrin, collagen, and elastin** in necrotic or sloughy tissue, promoting **enzymatic debridement**—the removal of devitalized tissue in chronic wounds, which aids in wound bed preparation and accelerates healing. Developed by SolasCure, Aurase was designed to address the shortcomings of current debridement options by offering a rapid, effective, and **pain-free alternative** to surgical or autolytic methods. Aurase is in Phase II clinical development for **venous leg ulcers** and has received FDA Fast Track designation for treating **calciphylaxis ulcers**[1][2][3][5][6][7]. Early clinical trials demonstrate a strong safety profile, no systemic exposure or immunogenicity, and a dose-dependent debridement effect[1][3][5][7].
