Overview

AurKA shRNA is a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) designed to silence the expression of Aurora Kinase A (AurKA), a serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in mitotic spindle assembly and cell cycle regulation. AurKA is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, including glioblastoma, breast, and lung cancers, where it contributes to oncogenic transformation and aneuploidy. By utilizing RNA interference (RNAi) to knockdown AurKA levels, this agent prevents cells from prematurely surpassing the G2/M checkpoint, thereby sensitizing them to radiation therapy. Research conducted at the Ohio State University-Comprehensive Cancer Center has demonstrated that lentiviral-mediated delivery of AurKA shRNA in glioblastoma cell lines leads to reduced proliferation, increased apoptosis, and the prevention of polyploid cell accumulation following radiation treatment.
