Aurolab Procoat

Aurolab Procoat (and its higher-concentration variant, Aurolab Procoat Plus) is an ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) developed by Aurolab. It is a sterile, preservative-free, isotonic, and pyrogen-free viscoelastic solution containing a combination of sodium hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate. Aurolab Procoat contains 2% w/v sodium hyaluronate and 2% w/v chondroitin sulfate, while Procoat Plus contains 3% w/v sodium hyaluronate and 4% w/v chondroitin sulfate. This dual-action formulation combines the protective, tissue-coating advantages of a dispersive agent (provided by chondroitin sulfate) with the space-maintaining, cohesive benefits of sodium hyaluronate. It is indicated as a surgical aid in anterior segment ophthalmic procedures, including cataract extraction, intraocular lens (IOL) insertion, glaucoma surgery, and corneal transplant/retinal attachment surgery. By coating the corneal endothelium and maintaining the depth of the anterior chamber, it protects intraocular tissues from mechanical trauma during surgery.
