Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aurosporine is an ophthalmic solution containing 2% cyclosporine, developed and manufactured by Aurolab. It is approved and marketed in India for the treatment of severe dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca), severe keratitis, and allergic eye symptoms such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive agent that acts as a calcineurin inhibitor. Upon ophthalmic administration, it binds to cyclophilin A (peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase A) to form a complex that inhibits calcineurin, thereby blocking the activation of T-cells and the transcription of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as interleukin-2). This reduction in ocular surface inflammation helps restore normal tear production and alleviates discomfort associated with chronic dry eye and ocular allergies.
