Overview

Aurovisc is an ophthalmic viscoelastic device (OVD) containing 2% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), also known as hypromellose. It is a high molecular weight, sterile, clear, and non-inflammatory dispersive solution. Developed by Aurolab, it is primarily used as a surgical aid during anterior segment ophthalmic procedures, including cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Aurovisc functions by maintaining the depth of the anterior chamber and protecting the corneal endothelium and other intraocular tissues from mechanical trauma during surgery. It is also available in formulations designed to relieve eye dryness and irritation. The product is marketed globally in over 120 countries and is supplied in pre-filled syringes and vials.
