Overview
AuRx refers to two distinct therapeutic entities: a medical food for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a developmental vaccine for genital herpes. The medical food AuRx, developed by Tesseract Medical Research, contains butyric acid formulated using the proprietary CyLoc and DexKey delivery systems. This technology utilizes a dextrin-based molecular trap to encapsulate butyrate, masking its strong odor and taste while ensuring high bioavailability and sustained release in the gastrointestinal tract. It is intended for the nutritional management of microbiome imbalances and gut-brain-immune axis dysfunction in individuals with ASD. Separately, AuRx (also known as HSV-2 theracine) refers to a live-attenuated recombinant vaccine developed by the company AuRx, Inc. for the treatment of genital herpes (Herpes Simplex Virus 2). This vaccine was designed to stimulate a therapeutic immune response to reduce viral shedding and clinical outbreaks, though its development status has remained uncertain following early-stage clinical evaluations.
