Overview

Auto-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (ACP) is a bioresorbable gel composed of hyaluronic acid that has undergone an internal esterification process to create cross-links between polymer chains without the use of foreign chemical agents. This modification enhances the gel's viscosity and persistence at the site of application compared to natural hyaluronic acid. ACP is primarily utilized as a surgical adjuvant to prevent postoperative adhesions, particularly in gynecological and abdominal surgeries. By providing a temporary physical barrier between traumatized tissue surfaces during the healing process, it prevents the formation of fibrin bridges and subsequent permanent adhesions. It is commonly marketed under the brand name Hyalobarrier for the prevention of intrauterine adhesions following procedures such as hysteroscopic adhesiolysis or dilatation and curettage.
