An autogenous papilloma vaccine is a personalized immunotherapy prepared from a patient's own surgically excised tumor tissue. It is primarily developed for the treatment of Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP), particularly the juvenile-onset form, which is caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11. The vaccine is manufactured by extracting and processing viral antigens and tumor proteins from the patient's own biopsy material, which are then re-administered to the patient to stimulate a specific cell-mediated immune response. By priming the immune system to recognize and attack HPV-infected cells, the vaccine aims to reduce the frequency of tumor recurrence and the subsequent need for repeated surgical debulking procedures.
