Overview

This investigational cell-based immunotherapy combines autologous gamma-delta (γδ) T cells and cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells for the treatment of gastric cancer. Developed by Beijing Doing Biomedical Co., Ltd., the therapy involves the ex vivo expansion of these two distinct lymphocyte populations from a patient's own peripheral blood. γδ T cells are innate-like lymphocytes that recognize stress-induced ligands and phosphoantigens on tumor cells, while CIK cells are a heterogeneous population of effector cells (predominantly CD3+CD56+ T cells) with potent, non-MHC-restricted cytotoxic activity. When administered together, these cells work synergistically to identify and destroy malignant cells through the secretion of perforins, granzymes, and pro-inflammatory cytokines. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials (e.g., NCT02585908) to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with gastric cancer.
