Overview

Autologous adipose cell transplantation is a cell therapy being investigated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the treatment of glottic insufficiency, particularly resulting from unilateral vocal cord paralysis (UVCP). The procedure involves harvesting adipose-derived cells, which include mesenchymal stem cells and other regenerative components, from the patient's own fat tissue and injecting them into the submucosa of the vocal cord and paraglottic space. This approach aims to provide bulk to the paralyzed vocal fold and promote laryngeal soft tissue regeneration, thereby improving voice quality and reducing symptoms like vocal fatigue and aspiration. In clinical studies, it is often evaluated alongside or in combination with functional collagen scaffolds to enhance tissue integration and structural support.
