This investigational autologous cell therapy, developed by King Edward Medical University, involves the use of ex vivo expanded adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) to enrich fat grafts for the treatment of facial contour deformities and hyperpigmentation, particularly in patients with Parry-Romberg syndrome (progressive hemifacial atrophy). The procedure involves harvesting the patient's own fat, isolating and expanding the MSCs in a laboratory setting, and then recombining them with fat grafts for local injection into the affected facial areas. The therapy aims to improve the survival and volume retention of the fat graft while utilizing the regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of MSCs to restore facial contour and normalize skin pigmentation through paracrine signaling and tissue remodeling.
