Celltex Therapeutics' autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSCs) are a personalized cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other inflammatory conditions. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a small sample of a patient's own adipose tissue, from which mesenchymal stem cells are isolated and expanded to therapeutic quantities in a cGMP-compliant laboratory. While Celltex banks these cells in the United States, the expansion process—which the FDA classifies as 'more than minimal manipulation'—is typically conducted at their facility in Mexico for clinical administration. The therapy is thought to exert its effects through immunomodulation and the secretion of paracrine factors that reduce neuroinflammation, modulate microglial activity, and potentially facilitate the clearance of amyloid-beta plaques, thereby aiming to slow cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
