This investigational cell therapy consists of autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC) developed by the Andalusian Initiative for Advanced Therapies through the Fundación Pública Andaluza Progreso y Salud. Specifically designed for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the therapy involves the extraction of mesenchymal stem cells from a patient's own adipose tissue, which are then processed into a suspension for intravenous administration. The therapeutic approach aims to leverage the innate ability of MSCs to modulate the immune system and provide neuroprotective effects, potentially slowing the progression of motor neuron degeneration. It has been evaluated in a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled Phase I/II clinical trial (EudraCT 2011-006254-85) to assess safety and efficacy across multiple dosing levels in patients with moderate to severe ALS.
