Autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) are an investigational cell therapy developed by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University for the treatment of sequelae resulting from severe brain injury, including those caused by brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) hemorrhage. These cells are harvested from the patient's own adipose tissue, expanded ex vivo, and then re-administered via intravenous infusion. The therapeutic rationale is based on the ability of mesenchymal stem cells to migrate to sites of injury and release a variety of bioactive molecules, such as growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. These paracrine factors help to mitigate neuroinflammation, promote the survival of existing neurons, and stimulate endogenous repair processes, aiming to improve functional outcomes in patients with chronic neurological deficits following severe intracranial events.
